Jason Kottke links to a hilarious video of the driving in Russia, and I can attest to the absolute insanity that is the Russian driving ethos.
I went in 1999 and stayed with a host family who had to drive me from the high school to their home. Most of the way we were on what would have easily been a 3 lane high way (three lanes in each direction) and it appeared to have no discernible order, people drove where ever they damn well pleased.
That combined with the fact that we were stopped by a cop and forced to pay a bribe only help reinforce my perception that Russia is the Wild West with automobiles and Vodka, which my host family offered me about 50 times.
