Today was excellent! I woke up really early and got on the road like I was going to go on a road trip, rolling down the road by 6 a.m. I got to my destination really early, like an hour early, and walked around downtown. I saw a battleship and some really nice old buildings. I’m really surprised that there isn’t more development, loft style apartments, cool office spaces, the downtown district is ripe for that kind of development. It would be risky, but my perception of the area is that it would do really well.
Anyway, I’m there really early and I wander around, I know there is a Starbucks in the area. I find said Starbucks, which is tucked next to a little arcade. It’s filled with art (the arcade) and it would be an awesome place to eat lunch. I order a venti calm tea, if I have too much caffeine I might explode. The nerves are really high and I constantly checking my cellphone. You know it’s really funny, I was one of those people who said, carrying a cellphone as a watch is really stupid, but now that I have my own cellphone, it makes total sense.
Calm tea in hand, I start wandering again. I think I have a good idea around the area, or if not the magnetite is working really well. I find the building I’m meant to be at, still 30-minutes to go. Hmm, just stand around. You can show up 15-minutes early for an interview, but not half an hour. Oh yeah, in case I didn’t tell you, it’s an interview.
Standing outside the office, I notice a cat sitting on the other side of the door. Office cats! Awesome! Standing, waiting. Finally I hear people moving inside, I am standing out of the line of sight of the door, I don’t want to seem over anxious, or over zealous. As I finish a sip of tea, the office door opens and out walks a woman, Katie, the person I had been communicating with. I tried to recover and deliver an impressive hand-shake. I think I did. Rather than go into all the detail of the interview, I’ll just summarize: I’m really happy with my performance, I really like the company and I’m super psyched.
I have a follow up meeting on Friday, that can never be bad right?
I had an appointment this morning, one that required me getting a suit dry cleaned and reworking my portfolio. I left really early (like 2 hours early), to make it through the tunnel and to the appointment place on time. I pumped myself up the entire way there.
When I got there, the person I was meant to meet was out. An emergency. An understandable one, involving children.
I’m bummed. I was super psyched up and to not get to pitch what I wanted to is a littlea lot of a let down.
Esther and I went to Deja Vu last night and I have to say that it is one of the smartest time travel movies that I have ever seen. The plot was very twisty, but the great thing was after the movie was over all the pieces that didn’t really seem to have meaning in the beginning, fall into place very well. I really don’t want to give away the plot and the secrets of the movie, but this is a must-see! It’s going my “to buy” list!
